HB2976: SCH CD-STUDENT ABSENCE-PARENT

Legislative Summary

Amends the Compulsory Attendance Article of the School Code. Provides that a civic event that a child may be excused from school to engage in means an event sponsored by a nonprofit organization or governmental entity that is open to the public and includes, but is not limited to, an inauguration or an artistic or cultural performance or educational gathering that supports the mission of the sponsoring nonprofit organization. Allows the State Board of Education to adopt rules to further define "civic event".
