HB3097: SCH CD-FAFSA COMPLETION

Legislative Summary

Amends the School Code. Provides that, beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, a school district shall provide appropriate support to each high school student to assist with education about and the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid or an application for State financial aid. Provides that the support may be offered in a variety of formats, times, and settings and shall include an opportunity for the student to request and receive help during the school day in completing the student's portion of the financial aid application. Provides that the high school may request assistance from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission to support the completion of financial aid applications, including application completion events and individual assistance, at no cost to the high school. Provides that a high school student may choose whether to use required support or assistance. Effective immediately.
