HB699: AN ACT relating to elections.
Legislative Summary
Amend KRS 118.176 to require the county board of elections or the State Board of Elections to notify a candidate and the appropriate certifying authority that the candidate fails to meet the jurisdictional or party affiliation requirements for the office sought; require that the notification be made by the first Friday after the candidate filing deadline; require that the certifying authority shall not certify any candidate that fails to meet requirements; provide that a candidate whose bona fides are questioned may appeal a certifying authority's decision to the appropriate Circuit Court; require that appeals be filed by the certification date for candidates; amend KRS to change the deadline for the certification of candidates to the third Friday after the filing deadline for a primary election; amend KRS 118.995 to conform.
