Legislative Summary
An Act To Amend Section 43-59-3, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Require The Appropriate State Officials To Make Appointments To Fill All Of The Vacancies On The Mississippi Commission On The Status Of Women Not Later Than June 1, 2022; To Provide That The Governor Shall Call A Meeting Of The Full Commission Before July 1, 2022; To Provide That Any Member Of The Commission Who Does Not Attend Three Consecutive Regular Meetings Of The Commission For Any Reason Other Than Illness Shall Be Removed From The Commission By A Majority Vote Of The Board Members Or By The Original Appointing Officer Of The Member; To Require The Chairman Of The Commission To Notify The Original Appointing Officer Of A Member When The Member Has Failed To Attend Three Consecutive Regular Meetings; To Authorize The Lieutenant Governor And The Speaker To Each Designate Two Legislators To Attend Any Meeting Of The Commission; To Provide That The Commission Shall Be Assigned To The Department Of Finance And Administration For Administrative Purposes Only; To Provide That The Department Shall Provide The Commission With A Location Where The Commission May Have Its Meetings; To Amend Section 43-59-7, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Require The Commission, In Furtherance Of Its Educational Mission, To Conduct An Annual Statewide Forum On Issues Affecting The Status Of Women And Women's Educational, Employment And Other Related Needs And Recognizing The Achievements Of Women; To Provide That The Commission Shall Conduct Events At Other Times During The Year That Recognize The Achievements Of Women; To Bring Forward Sections 43-59-1, 43-59-5, 43-59-9, 43-59-11 And 43-59-13, Mississippi Code Of 1972, Which Relate To The Commission On The Status Of Women, For The Purposes Of Possible Amendment; And For Related Purposes.
