SB1109: Relating to education; declaring an emergency.

Legislative Summary

The Act requires boards of schools and higher education to video record their meetings. The Act permits audio recording and posting in certain cases. The Act applies to meetings on or after 1/1/2025. The Act takes effect when signed. (Flesch Readability Score: 60.2). [Digest: Tells ODE to do an audit of the tests given to kindergarteners. (Flesch Readability Score: 67.7).] [Requires the Department of Education to conduct an audit of assessments administered to kindergarteners in public schools. Directs the department to submit findings to the interim committees of the Legislative Assembly related to education not later than September 15, 2026.] Requires specified boards of educational institutions to video record their governing meetings. Permits a board to post audio recordings of board governing meetings if the educational institution lacks broadband Internet access. Applies to board meetings occurring on or after January 1, 2025. Declares an emergency, effective on passage.
